World Gym Fitness Clubs were established in 1976. Joe Gold, the fitness pioneer, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the seven-time Mr. Olympia winner, opened the very first World Gym club in Venice Beach, California.

World Gym attracted bodybuilders across the globe, so Joe Gold decided to expand his fitness empire, and hired Mike Uretz (the incumbent CEO of World Gym International) to help him achieve this goal. During the 1980s and 1990s, World Gym expanded successfully and rapidly in the United States and overseas.

In Taiwan, World Gym opened its first club at Taichung Central Shopping Mall in 2001. From 2001 to 2011, World Gym grows from 1 club to 21 clubs around the island. (World Gym Elite Taipei 101, World Gym Elite 2 Taipei  Minsheng, Taipei Hsin-Dian, Taipei Nei-Hu, Taipei Hsin-Zhuang, Taipei Da-An, Taipei Hsi-Men, Taipei Station, Taipei Tien-Mu, Taipei Ton-Lin, Taoyuan Jong-Li, Hsinchu Lin-Sen, Hsinchu Big city, Taichung Sogo, Taichung Central Shopping Mall, Taichung World Yoga, Taichung E-Chung, Tainan Focus, Tainan Guo Bin, Kaohsiung Sanduo, and Kaohsiung Dream Mall.)

Formally, World Gym Fitness Clubs are the first international chain fitness clubs around the island.

World Gym is building the business model of modern fitness clubs around the island, hoping to provide Taiwan residents with a healthier and more professional fitness environment.
